STATE OF THE ART 2020 CATALOG

What does contemporary visual art in the United States look like in the year 2020?

That question was the basis for State of the Art 2020, an exhibition that debuted at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and its satellite contemporary art space, The Momentary, in February 2020. From these two locations in Bentonville, Arkansas, the exhibition then traveled to a variety of sites around the country.

The State of the Art 2020 catalog features the work of the sixty-one artists in the exhibition and includes more than one hundred captivating, thought-provoking artworks ranging from minuscule objects to room-sized installations that incorporate a wide range of materials and themes. Contributions by exhibition curators Lauren Haynes, Allison Glenn, and Alejo Benedetti offer insight into the journey they embarked upon to bring this exhibition together. Above all, this catalog illuminates the impact these artists have at this moment in time, working around the country in communities large and small.
